The maggots are actually really helpful in this type of situation. They eat all the dead flesh so the wound doesn’t get gangrenous, etc.

its a wonder that he didnt die of a septic shock, with that much dead flesh its not that hard for infectious material to reach the bloodstream.

No dead tissues in contact whit blood, no antigene/no toxine liberate, no immune respond, no septic shock.
Basic immunology

but what about bacteria in the flesh from somewhere the infection has to come i dont believe that he walked 10 years around without fetching a bacterium

Yep it seems a bit hairstreched, but this guys surely have commited several infection during those 10 years. But apparently not enough to cause overreaction of immun system (thanks maggots), he would be simply dead if otherwise.

A homeless man with quality shoes? Who last 10 years of daily walking?
Scozzer0 points2 days ago

What about 10 year old shoes that are completely damaged?
wuhuh1 point1 day ago

my soles begin to let loose/wear through after +- 2 years. And I don’t walk as much as a homeless man, who can’t buy quality sho….. ah well, fuck you.

What does him being diabetic have anything to do with his wonderful pedicure?
distaldigit2 points1 day ago

High blood sugars in diabetes cause changes in the body’s chemistry that attack the body. One thing it attacks is nerves, so poorly controlled diabetes can cause loss of sensation, especially towards the ends of the limbs. If you can’t feel damage to your foot, then you don’t take proper care of them when you do injure them. Also, circulation is reduced through similar processes.

  1. Aside from occasional hunger pangs, homelessness was the life! Until I got pneumonia and foot rot, then it wasn’t so fun anymore.
